OBS Technology AS was established in 1985 by Nils Terje Ottestad. Initially named Ottestad Breathing Systems AS, the company's core business focused on the design and development of breathing equipment for deep-sea diving. The emergence of Remote Operated Vehicles in the early 1990s significantly reduced the demand for this equipment. However, the need for innovative hydraulic and pneumatic solutions persisted. Customers' familiarity with OBS technology led to new projects and products across various sectors, including maritime operations, defense, aerospace, medical equipment, and oil and gas.
In 2016, the company underwent restructuring, and OBS Technology AS now holds patents and intellectual property rights to its products. All production, service, and custom design are managed by its subsidiary, OBS Nova AS.
